If you are a Hungarian (as my girlfriend is) and try to voice search for Zootropolis, you might get the result for “Zootra Police”. Now, it won’t return anything to watch but Zootra-Police sounds like a film I want to see. A Judge Dredd style, x-rated spin off of Zootropolis, where a psychic, adorable rookie Aardvark cop and an emotionless, brutal black sheep* wreak bloody war on cursed catnip druglord Mittens’ illicit catnip empire. Now that’s some cinema!

While I wait, probably forever, for Zootra-Police, Zootropolis is available on Disney so we watched that. Zootroplis is one of the highest grossing films of all time and its sequel has also torn through the box office and is available on demand now.

coming soon? No, but you heard it here first.
Zootropolis (sorry, gonna call it that as I’m in the UK even though Zootopia is a better name) is about a bunny, a bunny with dreams goddamn it. Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) makes it to the police force and in some heavy handed racism parallels faces prejudice at every turn. Surprise surprise, in an unlikely buddy comedy twist she is forced to partner up with wily fox con-artist Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) to solve a twisty-turny case.

Fantastic, in places jaw droppingly intricate, CG animation and animal detail mixes well with observational and yes, a little stereotypical personality traits to create the gigantic city which is split into zones depending on its inhabitants. This is portrayed to great effect, not only comically, and the depth of thought is a real treat.

Zootropolis is a film ostensibly for the kiddies, but one which is clever and funny enough for adults too- even those watching at home on a Sunday afternoon who don’t have kids and found another murder mystery a little too much.

Bedsit it?

I got completely caught up in Zootropolis, laughed my arse off and am confident that it's for everyone. I will watch the sequel when it’s on Disney (I have a litany of violence I’m keen to see in the cinema) and will submit my pitch for Zootra-Police post haste. 8/10 *I am the baa!
